About
Donovan "Ras" McKoy was born in the 1950s in Kingston, Jamaica. His early life blended urban living with rich natural surroundings, including time spent in the mountains of St. Thomas. These experiences deeply shaped his worldview and musical expression.
Migrating to Britain in his mid-teens, he became active in sound system culture. By the early 1980s, he owned one of London's recognised sound systems — Alpha and Omega, later renamed Master I.
